Dear magic playing peoples of the WORLD!
I have grown dissatisfied.

The Izzet cry to me, they scream DO SOMETHING ABSOLUTELY EVIL.

I have created a Izzet-tinged deck called Catch That Flying Goblin but the strategy, while a fresh take, is stale. Flying red creatures get old (and lethal) way too fast.

So, I present a challenge. Give me a deck idea concerning the Izzet or the Orzhov (please) that just really shouldn't work. Four color decks, btw, have been tried and found wanting. Something evil, something that'll crush and kill but has some terrible drawback or SOMETHING. Something that they shouldn't be capable of.

Something that will make my opponents go... "You just did huhwhatnow?"

Ok wizards ... listen, i have a proposal ... just admit you were wrong about one tiny mana costing and reprint Counterspell costed at 1UU ... we promise to ignor the mistake and continue like this whole sorry episode never happened

Cursed Scroll
if this card was printed today it would have been banned faster than skullclamp - we played 1998-1999 WChamp decks and every deck - nomatter the concept had 4x cursed scroll; ok thers ther rant on scroll over with:

im trying to think of a deck concept to play with and im struggling, id like to play tog, but im not paying for 4x fact or fiction :(, id like to make a draw-go deck but rich would kill me (i played the 1998 one) and had rich in tears.

so a concept...anyone?

Tom...your gonna love this:

the state of the current extended metagame; psychatog vs "boros deck wins2 +/- affinity, it just hit me like a nuke outta a clear blue sky... dredge and co. are just silly for tog; plus they printed about 15 tutor effects for UB...

gotta love how wizards do everything possible to kill tog off in onslaught, and still have failed 3 blocks later..

An observation.
When heading to Magicthegathering.com, to look at Gatherer with regards to DW's last post, I came across the "enter your region" page, which contained the following lines at the bottom:

"If you have cookies enabled, you won't see this page again.
When you come back tomorrow, your region and language will be automatically set."

They really have stopped pretending that it's not addictive.

Tooth and nail
ok; currently with the urzatron i can get a reliable tooth cast turn 4..and if i could afford the birds of paradise it would probably be turn 3 (bold statement but perfect draw: G bird (turn1), Tron1, tap bird, snake(turn2), tron2, tap snake, tron(turn3)) tooth and nail, gg...

now ok... that has to be good enough for extended... ive played it in extended and it loses to dwarven blastminer, which probably means putting some sort of removal on the board... (btw guys im talking DW removal..so thats oblivion stone)

currently i have the following targets:
1 Collossus (tweedledum is on the board)
1 Sundering Titan
1 Kiki-Jiki Mirror breaker
1 Duplicant
4 Eternal witness (this card needs banning)

ok... target combo 1: Sundering/Kiki = effect 3 lands of each type when it comes into play, 2 lands each turn after and a free beat for 7 damage... normally concession

combo 2: Duplicant/Kiki = effect 2 creatures removed from game, and one then removed each turn after...normally concession, normally used in the face of a win next turn style move..

combo 3: Colossus/Kiki = 11/11 Trample Haste token... no token will ever feel the same again

the only real problem ive got is that in extended there are real ways to totally shutting down the deck (blastminer) so any clever tricks please lemme know

MtG tin and Rolling-Tin now appear to have been consolodated into one item in the interests of storage efficiency. My 60+ Glass counters for the game have now been replaced with 60+ beer bottle tops

What does this say about the state of the metagame?

Ravinidin block?


The more i stare at the pairings the more i fall in love with WotC R&D ... such a subtle difference, though my instinct tells me the MIR ones are more flexible, but the RAVI ones are more effective/efficient ... i really need a game theorist *cough* My3rdEye/DarkW *cough* to work out the difference ... these AND a nerfed affinity reprint .... hmmmmmm :D

Again, nothing to write home about (or think about in constructed) ... but nice lil card in limited

Firstly CMC is 2.0 depending on how you rate the new multi-mana dynamic ... basically if you drew this in your opening hand it WILL hit the table turn 2, no fixes needed ... a 2/2 on turn 2 for 2 is better than par for most creatures in limited, for the comparible 1/1's with nicer abilities having this out is arguably better.

Early game its a 2/2 prod-stick and early blocker to stop the earlygame 2/1 or 1/1 beats ... it mid game dynamics are interesting, neither will need a fix ... Returning your win condition creature is handy, esp as you could stack this ability after GalGuildMage has blocked and taken leathal damage

Paying 5 for a +1/+1 counter IS overcosted (note i didnt say horrendiously overcosted) ... given you can do this as an instant, and the things DO accumilate, as well as a few OLDER cards (im thinking mirrodin/Onslaught block here) get oddball triggar effects with +1/+1's. Im guessing if your hands been thinned and your opponent is playing control FTW, its a generally good idea to have these 2 abilities on the table rather than in your hand

ofcourse we know that red is getting its power back in this block .. so abilities strapped to creatures isnt always good

Personally id have made this a 3 mana creature and downcosted both its abilities by 1 mana to make it a play-on-3 triggar-on-4 kinda creature

but meh, its just nicly balanced, not broken and kinda useful ... why is this the 2nd rules dynamic (+1/+1 tokens) ive seen lifted from Mirrodin, brushed of, Unbroken, ReGlued, and dropped into RAVI block
Henceforth RAVI block will be known as the REGLUED block .... until Ravinicaravager is printed

PreRelease this weekend

M:TG Ravnica: City of Guilds
Worldwide Pre-release

Following the immense successes of our Mirrodin and Kamigawa Block Pre-releases we will again run multiple 32 player flights throughout the day. The first flight will start as soon as 32 people have enrolled. As we are planning on starting enrolment as soon as the doors open at 8:30am, this means the first pre-release could start almost right away. We will then run additional flights all day, as long as there is sufficient player demand (minimum 16 players per flight).

Guessing the breakpoint
as mentioned previously for reasons of pairing coloures the colour distribution of cards in the first block of RAVI will be uneven ... after poking around ill give u my guestimates asto cardpool distribution and possibly what to play in the opening day of limited (im guessing were all heading up london for the win ... i mean for the prerelease event)

Pair 1 - Selesnya - White/Green (good boosts, enchants and that UnBroken Affinity thing)
Pair 2 - Golgari - Green/Black agro-sacrifice with crazy resrection mechanic
Pair 3 - Boros - Red/White ... Red SLigh + white weenie + shedloads of 'Vigilence-on-a-stick' cards
Pair 4 - Dimir - Black/Blue ... classic card exhaustion and counter/control .. they have built in a deck milling win condition too for exhausting your opponents libary ..ripe from making that 9th ed reprint of traumatise & haunting echos useful ...

so were looking at a guestimated cardpool of
Red =12%
White = 24%
Green = 24%
Blue = 12%

So in limited tournement my guesses are Black,White, Green splash weakest in cardpool for the win

wonder how accurate my guestimates will prove

Again i like this a lot
its GOOD, but not BROKEN .. as tom once taught me ... 2 coloured mana is effectivly 3 mana (1 coloured and 2 uncoloured)
as DW would say ... C+/B .. Solid card, great in limited

another nice mechanic
hmmm convoke ... i like that mechanic ... THATS how affinity should have been worded

Affinity - this spell costs (1) less to play for each artifact you tap as you cast this spell (non creature artifacts untap during the untap step)

hmm, do artifact creatures effect the uncoloured mana cost i wonder ... think i see some llanowar elves coming up for White decks
